We are not tourist guides, we will be your fellow travelers, showing you the real Mexico. We are locals and we want you to travel like one. This is not a regular tour with tight schedules where you will have to run in a group from one site to another. This is more like friends traveling together looking to make meaningful connections with the people and culture they meet along the way.
Please check out our travel philosophy here.
Sure! We'll be thrilled! We actually want to get to know you better. Personalized attention is what Cantimplora is all about!
So feel free to email us at anytime to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can even arrange a video call to clear all your doubts.
As canadian travel writer Robin Roberts reports in The Vancouver Sun, the biggest danger in Mexico for tourists is a hangover.
Unless you are involved in the drug trade, you are statistically safer in Mexico than anywhere else in North America. We recommend you read How safe is Mexico? A traveler's guide to safety over sensationalism.
"Mexico is huge, ranking 14th among the world's 249 countries, and spanning over 2,000 miles from end to end. Mexico is a nation of 31 states as diverse as those in the U.S. To put it in context, Mexico is larger than the 19 U.S. states from Texas to Maine! ... Canceling a vacation to Mexico because of isolated border violence would be like canceling a vacation to Orlando because of the Boston Bombings or brush fires in Colorado. These incidents are hundreds, even thousands of miles from the vacation destination. People didn't cancel trips to Dallas or New Orleans in the aftermath of mass shootings in Arizona, Colorado or Connecticut, because they simply aren't related. Yet Dallas and New Orleans are closer to border violence than many of Mexico's peaceful tourist areas.
Every city and country has places that are safe and dangerous. Mexico is no exception. The areas that are dangerous should be avoided. And those that are safe should be enjoyed and celebrated."
Please don't let the media sensationalism blur your perspective, as with any foreign country you go to, it is important to be informed and exercise common sense to take appropriate safety precautions.
Nobody wants to think about all the things that might go wrong on their trip, but these things can and do happen. Having coverage for every imaginable circumstance will allow you to relax and enjoy your trip.
Travel insurance can minimize the considerable financial risks of traveling: accidents, illness, trip cancellation and interruption, missed flights, canceled tours, lost baggage, theft, emergency evacuation, etc.
Travel insurance should not be overlooked when booking a travel with Cantimplora, many problems we cannot be held responsible for, such as cancellation of your trip for any reason, incidental expenses or flights, can be insured against. It is your responsibility to be familiar with the insurance coverage policy and ensure that the coverage meets your travel needs as well as Cantimplora's requirements (including activities listed on itinerary).
Any easy going free-spirit traveler looking to go off the beaten path and engage with a deeper part of the places they visit. Anyone who considers culture as the essence of travel and avoids typical guided tours and tourist traps, and would rather connect with locals to understand it's surroundings.
Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple, a group of friends, young or young at heart, we have a spot for you!
If you are culture curios, interested in understanding your surroundings while you travel, not afraid of living new experiences or willing to practice your (bad) spanish with locals, then this is the trip for you.
Remember you'll be traveling of the beaten path in a new country, so you must be ready to go out of your comfort zone and be open to the feeling of adventure.
Compared to solo traveling or a big-bus tour, small groups offer you the best advantages when traveling! When in a small group of like-minded travelers, you'll be offered comradeship, security, access, personalized attention and a lifetime relationship with new friends who shared your same adventure.
We want to give you the best real experience we can, that is why our trips are limited to up to 12 travelers, so we can keep it as warm and personal as possible!
Most of our travelers are between 25 - 35 years old.
Sure! If you already have a group of family, friends or co-workers and would like a special trip, we could arrange a special departure date for one of our pre-established routes or we can customize a special itinerary for you! Just contact us for your special requirements!
Our accommodations range in variety and have been handpicked to meet the standards of Cantimplora Travel. We stay away from big impersonal chain hotels, we look for cozy, small boutique accommodations reflecting the personality of the destination. From a boutique hotel downtown, log cabins in the forest or a beach cabaña, we assure you they will offer a wonderful experience.
We offer two types of accommodation, one private room for solo travelers or one double room for 2 people traveling together.

Our prices are very competitive compared to other group trips. Other group trips with the same level of comfort may cost up to $4,000 pax, however they lack the personal treatment and the carefully curated off the beaten path places by our local Travel Designers. Plus, since you will be accompanied throughout the trip by local connoisseurs Sam and Bernie, who are also travel photographers, you don't get charged extra for the service of a personal photographer.
Of course! The journey is flexible and has carefully built-in free time so you can do anything you like the most or simply relax. We can also recommend what to do with your free time if you like.
Remember this is not a regular tour with tight schedules where you will have to run in a group from one site to another. This is more like friends traveling together.
After booking we'll send you via email an "Essential trip information and pre-departure checklist" with everything you need to know, from airport transfer information, hotel directions and maps to recommendations and money considerations. And of course we will always be there to help you solve any doubt.
